Overview of the university

The Estonian University of Life Sciences (EMÜ) is a center for research, development and study in Estonia in agriculture, forestry, animal science, veterinary science, rural life and economy, food science, biodiversity, nature protection, renewable natural resources and environmentally friendly technologies.

University is located in Tartu, one of the oldest cities in the Baltics. Tartu is the second largest city with nearly 100,000 inhabitants in Estonia. The city is Estonia’sleading centre of education and research. It is also known as a City of students.

The Estonian University of Life Sciences is one of the top 100 universities in the world in the field of agriculture and forestry, according to QS World University Rankings by Subject (2017). The university also belongs to the top 1% most cited research facilities in the world, with our plant physiology professor Ülo Niinemets being the most cited Estonian researcher altogether.
