Course overview

This innovative school-based model of initial teacher training was designed by the Edge Hill University Partnership who wanted to collaborate more closely on the delivery of the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of an undergraduate initial teacher training degree. The aim was to create an initial teacher training degree which could potentially be studied while also in full-time employment.

Therefore, on this four-year programme, the training is delivered through study weeks and twilight taught sessions by trainers from across the Edge Hill University partnership, complemented by tasks undertaken in a school setting. It provides the opportunity to study for a degree leading to QTS, with Edge Hill University, from anywhere in the North West.

The school-based route is suitable for well-experienced trainees who would prefer to spend more time in school and learn while working.

We want to recruit trainees who actively demonstrate a strong commitment to primary teaching as a career. You must have an appreciation of the demands of teaching and should have made a conscious decision about your place in the teaching profession. Imagination and resourcefulness to meet the challenges facing today
