Course overview
This joint honours degree combines the disciplines of politics and media to equip you with an understanding of how contemporary media is changing the way we relate to political figures, policies and events, as well as how political, social and economic interests help to shape and drive the media industries. If you are curious about how decisions are made, communicated and reported, or have thought about a career as a journalist, making documentaries, working in the Civil Service or Parliament, then this degree is for you. You will gain a real-life understanding of the world of politics, looking at current practice in the UK, while also focusing on developments and changes around the world. Exploring the ways in which modern politics is communicated, you will gain knowledge of the relationship between media and society by investigating news values and the impact of technology on media production and audience consumption. You will graduate with a set of key transferable skills including the ability to conduct research, write press releases and speeches, craft a message to communicate a particular point of view and analyse and understand complex information.
