Overview of the university

Delft University of Technology, commonly known as TU Delft, is a technical university located in Delft, the Netherlands. It is the oldest and largest Dutch public technical university, having been founded in 1842. TU Delft consistently ranks among the top universities in the world for architecture and engineering and technology.

TU Delft offers bachelor’s, master’s and research degrees across 8 faculties and research institutes:

• Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering
• Architecture and the Built Environment
• Civil Engineering and Geosciences
• Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science
• Industrial Design Engineering
• Aerospace Engineering
• Technology, Policy and Management
• Applied Sciences

The university is home to around 27,000 students, of which 23.6% are international students. It offers many programmes in English, and works in cooperation with other education and research institutions. TU Delft is also a member of several European research and education associations, including the European University Association, which is the main European body that supports the development of a coherent and consistent higher education system across the region.

With a focus on science, design and technology, TU Delft strives to make an impact for a better society. It does this through preparing its students for the workplace, but also placing an emphasis on research and asking questions about how to make the world a better, more sustainable place.
