Established in 1974 in the Australian state of Victoria, Deakin University is a large-scale public university with over 42,000 enrolled students. The university is located on four campuses across Victoria - Burwood suburb, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Geelong Waterfront and Warrnambool - as well as three learning centres in the state.
International students will be interested in the fact that Deakin University became Australia’s first institute to specialise in distance education in 1974, and the university now operates a complete online campus featuring nearly all of the courses offered physically on campus.
Deakin also operates six world-class research institutes including the Alfred Deakin Institute and the Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute. The university regularly updates its existing facilities using the funding it receives, and recently unveiled a brand-new 55 million-dollar engineering facility.
Deakin University focuses its research projects on themes including designing smarter technologies and sustainability practices, and stresses on providing international students with “real-world experience” for a successful career in their chosen fields.
The university has a large population of international students numbering nearly 12,500 admits. Deakin is also well-known for its modernised healthcare programmes, and operates a clinical simulation centre designed to provide medical students with real-world practical experience alongside academic learning.
