Course overview

Digital transformation is a pivotal factor driving innovation and success in various sectors. Central to these advancements is Applied Computer Science. Concurrently, there's a significant shift in workplace organization and execution. Increasingly, employees are working from home or remotely to collaborate with globally distributed teams or to manage, oversee, and maintain operations from afar. This shift towards a remote working environment presents numerous benefits, such as convenience for staff and cost reductions for employers. However, it also demands new skills and understanding of relevant tools and methodologies, all of which are covered in this program.

Moreover, the landscape of higher education is being reshaped by online learning. It addresses the specific needs and interests of students, particularly in offering flexible study schedules. It also serves as an ideal preparation for the emerging norm of remote working environments. Applied Computer Science students engage in predominantly asynchronous online courses, supplemented with tutorials and practical sessions. They receive guidance from faculty, tutors, and lecturers to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts. Practical components of the program emphasize teamwork, using tools and strategies for distributed work across different locations and time zones, and remote interaction with physical devices and setups.

The core Computer Science curriculum of the program is enhanced with Management and Leadership modules in the second and third years. Students gain skills in programming and software development, along with essential business knowledge and the ability to transform innovations into market-ready products. They also have the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary courses that encourage them to approach problems from a broader perspective and to think beyond the confines of their field.

Upon graduation, students are equipped to immediately enter the job market or to further their education, such as enrolling in the MSc in Computer Science and Software Engineering at Constructor University. Graduates of Applied Computer Science are particularly well-prepared for modern workplace demands, including remote working and collaboration within diverse teams.
